Alejandra Icaza’s painting is constructed through the repetition of circles and other multicolored organic forms, juxtaposed with symbolic elements such as faces, shoes, animals and trees. She draws these elements with a dry point that scratches the thick surface of oil paint and wax, as if writing in ideograms. Her dense color fields and alphabet of symbols are arranged in ellipses or spirals in a rhythmic and nonhierarchical way, forming moving landscapes.
